A big part of SharePoint is working with custom list views and the Data View Web Part. However, it can sometimes be a pain to create and a challenge to visualize beyond the humdrum spreadsheet look and feel.

But what if it could be easy? Perhaps not even require the use of SharePoint Designer?

Welcome to the Magic Data View Builder

What we did: Created an intelligent XSL template that you can upload to your SharePoint site, and point any XSLT List View web part to it. The XSL takes care of figuring out which columns are in your view, what kind of data they present, and gives you a table from which you can copy and paste the necessary XSL elements to create the design you want.
